Overview

Matteo Di Iorio

I work on embedded software and systems infrastructure. That includes STM32 and FreeRTOS firmware for vehicle hardware, O-RAN and Kubernetes testbeds, telemetry pipelines and a Rust search engine with strict deadlines. I am now focusing on ML systems and accelerated edge inference.

O-RAN xApp Lifecycle Lab

I turned part of my bachelor thesis into a public lab for the O-RAN xApp lifecycle. Ansible builds the single-VM K3s RIC environment and onboards kpimon-go. e2sim provides E2SM-KPM input, while the notes cover Istio switching.

University challenge projectCompleted

Kyndill

I built this Rust Ashton Tablut player for the University of Bologna AI Fundamentals Challenge. It reads a framed TCP protocol, generates legal moves locally and runs deterministic alpha-beta search over a compact board state. Before replying, a final guard checks the move and remaining time.

Electronics Division ManagerLeadership and embedded work

UniBo Motorsport HY

I led the Electronics Division for UniBo Motorsport Formula SAE Hybrid and worked directly on its BMS firmware, CAN integration, LV wiring and telemetry. I also handled validation and task coordination.

Observability pipelineCompleted

Simracing Telemetry Dashboard

A simracing telemetry pipeline that receives UDP packets, processes them in Go and makes the data available through a Grafana plugin and dashboard. The plugin has a React configuration UI, and Docker Compose runs the local setup.

Experience

Roles and projects

Bachelor thesis, academic year 2024/2025; completed in 2026

O-RAN xApp Lifecycle Lab

I built and released an O-RAN Near-RT RIC xApp lifecycle lab with Ansible, K3s and Istio. I monitored the validation work with Prometheus, Grafana and Kiali.

Electronics Division Manager, Sept 2024 to Jun 2025

UniBo Motorsport HY

I managed the HY electronics division while also working on BMS firmware, CAN integration, LV wiring, telemetry, and validation.

Embedded Software Engineer, Mar 2024 to Mar 2026

UniBo Motorsport HY

I worked on STM32 and FreeRTOS BMS firmware, CAN integration, telemetry, LV wiring, and debugging on the bench and vehicle.

Mobile and full-stack software engineer intern, Oct 2023 to Jul 2024

LYBRA Inc.

I worked on React Native and Next.js during a remote internship.

Education

Computer engineering

Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna

B.Sc. in Computer Engineering

The degree covered software, systems, and embedded engineering.

Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, 2026/2027 academic year

Incoming M.Sc. in Computer Engineering

I will start the M.Sc. in Computer Engineering in September 2026. Before official enrollment, I completed two master's-level exams, including AI Fundamentals, which became the starting point for Kyndill.
